Street Maintenance Sales Tax

The early, in-person voting period is Oct. 24-Nov. 4. Election Day is Nov. 8.

Street maintenance sales tax

State law requires the sales tax to be approved by the voters every four years. The sales tax was first approved by Georgetown voters in 2002 and has since been reauthorized every four years.

The street network in Georgetown has more than doubled in the last 20 years from about 400 lane miles in 2002 to nearly 1,000 lane miles in 2022.

The sales tax for street maintenance is collected from anyone who shops in Georgetown, not just homeowners.

Since April 2003, quarter-cent sales tax revenue of $46 million has been dedicated to street maintenance in Georgetown. The sales tax will generate an estimated $6.3 million in 2022.
